Housing Mission

To improve outcomes in housing for young Black men and boys in the Twin Cities.

The Housing Crisis in the Black Community
In Minnesota, Black individuals are disproportionately represented in the homeless population. Research highlights a clear link between race and access to housing, yet the housing crisis for communities of color and marginalized groups continues to worsen. Discriminatory housing policies, a shortage of affordable housing, and widening economic disparities have deepened this crisis, perpetuating instability in the Black community.
Our Collective Impact
Our Housing Opportunities To Eliminate Poverty (HOTEP) program is dedicated to addressing the diverse housing needs of Black men and their families. HOTEP empowers participants by providing essential tools for housing stability, including financial literacy, structured savings plans, credit management, homeowner and renter maintenance skills, insurance guidance, communication skills, employment support, utility enrollment assistance, and literacy development for completing housing applications. Our goals are to promote sustained housing stability and offer temporary housing support when needed.
HOTEP takes a compassionate, solutions-driven approach to overcoming housing barriers within the Black community. We address the unique challenges that prevent our participants from securing and maintaining safe, healthy homes. While homeownership is the ultimate goal, we recognize that individuals have varied needs and starting points, and we tailor our support to help them progress toward stability and independence.
