Petronellah Thomas-Shanobi, MS.c, LPCC, better known as Petra, is a seasoned mental health professional with an eclectic career path. Initially working as a banker, her journey led her to become a mental health nurse in England before expanding her experience globally, from forensic mental health nursing in New Zealand to serving clients in Australia's Outback with the Crisis Mobile Team and Flying Doctors. She deepened her expertise with a Master's degree in Mental Health Science from Flinders University, emphasizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Petra's practice, Kesma Flame Lily Therapies LLC, focuses on providing therapy to adolescents and adults struggling with a variety of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and trauma. A specialist in trauma therapy, particularly concerning sexual abuse, she also has a keen interest in Black Women's wellness. Guided by the South African philosophy of Ubuntu—emphasizing interconnectedness and mutual compassion—Petra ensures her clients feel welcomed and safe. She creates individualized treatment plans using strength-based modalities, maintaining a multicultural, trauma-informed environment. Alongside her clinical practice, Petra inspires future therapists at the University of Minnesota as a LEND fellow and actively participates in community service through board memberships in Twin Cities organizations.
